behind the name
The name siemora is a blend of two Spanish words: siempre + ahora. Quite literally it translates to 'always now' or para siempre ahora meaning 'forever now'.
There's something very striking about furniture and the way it integrates into our lives. It surrounds us, transitions with us, and becomes part of our journey. As we grow and change, so do our spaces and decor.
And sometimes, no matter how many years pass, no matter how many times we move, there are pieces that stay alongside us. Those pieces are with us in the present moment—always now.
This is what I hope for, this is why I create, so that the items I craft for you will be a part of your life's adventures and moments.
about me + siemora
Hi, I'm Tristan, founder and solo craftsperson of siemora and I'd like to share a glimpse of my journey of how siemora came to be.
Stumbling Upon Woodworking
After graduating high school, I wanted to enroll in the Industrial Design program at Dawson College, here in Montreal, but unfortunately, I didn't have the required credentials. So, I tossed it out the window, got accepted to the Cinema program and never thought about design again... Until, almost 15 years later when I started doing DIY-woodworking projects building and designing my own furniture for my condo.
It turned out I loved woodworking so much that I actually traded my full-time job at a food tech start-up for full-time trade school for *Cabinetmaking.
*fun fact! Cabinetmaking isn't only about making cabinets, surprisingly, as the name suggests. It actually deals with creating furniture for homes using wood as the primary resource. If a Carpenter focuses on building the structure of a house, then think of a Cabinetmaker focusing on the interior of the home. From a bathroom vanity to a white oak dining table, a Cabinetmaker is a profession that encompasses the world of woodworking.
Obstacle In The Way
My goal with enrolling in Cabinetry in 2017 had been to eventually open a furniture design studio focusing on a line of handcrafted furniture... Well, all that changed in 2021, when a wood panel crashed on top of my head from 8 feet high at work, causing a long-term concussion.
When the accident happened, I wasn't physically able to woodwork due to my symptoms; constant fatigue, headaches, neck pain, and muscle tension. It was a difficult time being unable to woodwork; the activity I loved and was literally doing every day. It all just stopped. Eventually, in 2023, I discovered something magical... 3D Printing.
3D Printing Excitement
Learning how to use 3D Printing technology unlocked new possibilities to explore ideas of all shapes and forms that I never had imagined. And the reality after my concussion was that woodworking like the good ol' days was still out of reach due to lingering symptoms. So, I focused on leveraging 3D Printers as the fundamental method of manufacturing to reduce the physical demand of woodworking. This is how siemora came to offer smaller scale essential lifestyle and home accessories as opposed to the original goal of handcrafted wood furniture.
The Vision
I want to offer beautiful, functional, and worth owning home goods to individuals looking to enjoy their living spaces more than being overwhelmed by decorating. If you've just moved into a new space, great, siemora can help you furnish it with home necessities. If you're a design lover and looking to add to your decor, excellent, siemora offers a foundation of everyday items every home needs that are made in Montreal.
Cheers,
Tristan
